Sun-Sentinel 4/6/2012: Weston working to boost bicycle usage
Weston is taking steps to create a more bike-friendly community.
To help with this initiative is the Weston Bike Alliance, an organization of residents in its early stages. Members will meet monthly to discuss bicycling issues in the city.At the helm is Jeffery Maxwell, city traffic engineer and liaison to the alliance. He is welcoming any residents interested in promoting increased bicycle usage for transportation and recreation to join the group.
"The city of Weston has long recognized the benefit of providing safe and efficient bicycling facilities as a means to both reduce traffic congestion and promote the use of recreational amenities throughout the city," he said, adding that bike lanes have been provided on more than 90 percent of city arterial roadways.
